The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has shortlisted Goa as the centralised venue for the upcoming Super Cup, scheduled to begin in the last week of October. A source close to the AIFF confirmed to RevSportz that while the initial plan was to stage the tournament across multiple venues, similar to the Durand Cup, logistical issues forced the federation to revert to a single host location.
The AIFF has requested the Goa Football Association to keep two match venues — Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, and Bambolim Stadium — along with four training grounds ready for the duration of the competition. At present, the proposal is to stage the tournament exclusively at these two venues, with an official announcement expected soon.
The upcoming Super Cup is set to feature 16 clubs: 13 from the Indian Super League (ISL) and three from the I-League. However, as per reports the participation of some ISL clubs, notably Kerala Blasters, Mumbai City, Chennaiyin, and Odisha FC, remains uncertain. While Kerala Blasters and Chennaiyin have expressed willingness to participate, their involvement is conditional on receiving clarity regarding the tournament’s structure, financial implications, and broadcast arrangements.
The AIFF has also confirmed that the winner of the 2025 Super Cup will secure a spot in the AFC Champions League Two play-offs for the 2026-27 season, provided the club also meets the criteria for a Premier 1 license under Indian club licensing regulations.
The tournament is expected to be played in phases, with a pause scheduled in mid-November. This is to accommodate India’s AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers fixture against Bangladesh on November 18, before the Super Cup resumes for its closing stages.
