India Women’s team coach, Amol Muzumdar, said that the upcoming series against Australia before the ICC Women’s World Cup will be a big one to sharpen their preparations.

“I think this is a real trailblazer for the World Cup. This is a very important series for us and we are looking forward to the series, playing against one of the top teams in the world. We had a lovely tour to England, we had positive results which we wanted and we are looking forward for the series.”

India will play a three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on September 14. The next two ODIs will be played on September 17 and September 20 respectively.

India will then play their first warm-up match against England on September 25. They will begin their World Cup campaign in the opening match of the tournament against Sri Lanka on September 30 in Guwahati.

In their last international fixture, India beat England in England 2-1 in the ODIs. Talking about that result, the Indian coach said: “In England we had the results, 2-1 in ODIs and we won the T20 series, first ever result in England as far as T20 is concerned. It was a fantastic 40-day tour.”

He went on to praise the players for their efforts.

“We gelled really well, it was a great team effort. Smriti (Mandhana) got a hundred in Trent Bridge and Harman (Harmanpreet Kaur) got a hundred in Durham. Everyone contributed and that was the takeaway from the series. Radha Yadav played a key role, Kranti Goud also contributed. All the boxes were ticked,” Muzumdar added.
