India’s women’s team batter Harleen Deol has underlined the importance of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, which will be their last assignment before the World Cup.
The three-match ODI series against the former world champions is seen as crucial preparation for India, according to Harleen.
“Ahead of the World Cup, matches like these are all part of our preparations, and that’s what we’re looking forward to,” Harleen said in a video on the BCCI’s official handle. “For us, it’s another important series before heading into the World Cup.”
Harleen has appealed to fans to come and support the team in Mullanpur, which is slated to host two of the ODIs. This is the first time that Mullanpur’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium would be hosting international matches. It’s near Chandigarh.
“And since this is Chandigarh, I hope people come together to create a brilliant atmosphere,” Harleen urged.
For Harleen, these matches will be special, as it will mark the first time her parents will see her live in a cricket match.
“My house used to be right next to the old PCA Stadium. As a child, whenever a four or a six was hit, I could hear the sound from my home — it was that close. So, for me, it’s always been a dream. My parents have never seen me play in the India jersey before, and now they’ll be watching me here for the first time,” she said.
Harleen is India’s trusted option at No. 3 in ODIs. Since her comeback from injury in December 2024, the 27-year-old has scored 230 runs in six innings, including a maiden ODI century.
