Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has taken a sharp dig at Pakistan after their loss to India in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai. Pathan claimed that even India’s domestic teams could beat Pakistan and added that several IPL franchises are strong enough to defeat the Men in Green.
Speaking on Sony Sports, Pathan said: “If you ask which of our domestic teams can beat Pakistan, I know for sure Mumbai can beat them. Punjab can beat them. Next, which IPL team can beat Pakistan? A lot of them.”
India dominated the contest from start to finish, registering a comfortable seven-wicket win with 25 balls to spare. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Pakistan managed only 127/9 in their 20 overs.
In reply, India chased down the target in just 15.5 overs, thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s aggressive start (31 off 13) and a solid 56-run partnership between captain Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.
Pathan also criticised Pakistan’s bowling attack, particularly their lack of fast bowlers.
“We were thinking about how to build up the game. Pakistan came with spinners and didn’t have fast bowlers. Their bowling was different, but there was no actual difference,” he said.
He further stressed that Pakistan never looked in the contest at any stage of the match.
“From the start to the end, after winning the toss and batting first to the chase, Pakistan weren’t in the competition at all. India were playing versus India and it was more of a practice match for the future,” Pathan concluded.
