East Bengal FC have bolstered their attack with the signing of Japanese striker Hiroshi Ibusuki, who joins the Red and Gold Brigade on a contract running until the end of the 2025-26 season. The 33-year-old forward arrives from Australian A-League side Western United FC, bringing with him a wealth of experience and more than 120 career goals.
Announcing the signing, Thangboi Singto, Head of Football at East Bengal, said: “Hiroshi’s proven goal-scoring record in top-tier leagues, combined with his professionalism and hunger for success, aligns perfectly with our vision of building a dynamic, competitive squad.”
Standing at 6’5”, Ibusuki is known for his aerial strength, clinical finishing, and link-up play. Having come through the youth ranks of Kashiwa Reysol, he moved to Spain in 2009 with Girona FC before loan spells at Real Zaragoza B and CE Sabadell. In 2011, he joined Sevilla FC and made his senior debut in the Seville derby against Real Betis. His European stint also included spells at Belgian club K.A.S Eupen and Valencia CF’s reserves.
On his return to Japan, Ibusuki turned out for Albirex Niigata, JEF United Chiba, Shonan Bellmare, and Shimizu S-Pulse, consistently making his mark as a reliable goalscorer. His move to Australia with Adelaide United in 2022 proved fruitful, where he scored on debut and impressed with his work rate and composure in front of goal. He followed that with a spell at Western United, continuing to deliver key goals.
Head coach Oscar Bruzon hailed the signing, calling Ibusuki a “classic centre-forward” with the pedigree to make a significant impact in the ISL.
Expressing his excitement, Ibusuki said: “This club has an incredible history and amazing fans. I am honoured to be part of East Bengal and I want to help the team chase silverware. Joy East Bengal!”
