Pakistan legend Wasim Akram has admitted that the heavy defeat against India in the Asia Cup 2025 group stage left him “down and depressed.” He said that losing is part of the game, but the one-sided nature of the contest against India was difficult to digest.
Speaking to broadcasters after Pakistan’s win over the UAE, Akram shared his emotions as a former player and passionate supporter.
“Of course, we feel like every other Pakistani. We love our cricket, and winning or losing is part of the game, I know that from having played so much for Pakistan,” he said.
India completely outclassed Pakistan in their Group A clash. Kuldeep Yadav’s brilliance with the ball and captain Suryakumar Yadav’s composed leadership helped India chase down the target with seven wickets in hand and 25 balls to spare. Pakistan’s batting faltered under pressure and failed to put up a fight.
Akram admitted that the manner of the loss hurt him the most.
“But the way we lost to India, in such a one-sided game, was tough to take. Even today, you could see the players under pressure, with technical faults showing. I’m human too, and at times it does leave me feeling down and depressed,” he added.
Pakistan’s campaign, however, has seen some positives. They began with a commanding 93-run win over Oman, where Mohammad Haris played a superb knock of 66. In their final group match, they defeated the UAE by 41 runs, with Shaheen Shah Afridi named Player of the Match for his all-round contribution.
With two wins in three games, Pakistan finished second in Group A behind India and qualified for the Super 4 stage with four points.
The Men in Green will now prepare for another high-voltage clash against India on September 21 in Dubai.
