Mohun Bagan Super Giant have written to the All India Football Federation (AIFF), urging a swift and transparent resolution to the long-pending Anwar Ali case. The club expressed concerns that repeated delays in hearings have created uncertainty for all stakeholders, undermining faith in the decision-making process.
In its letter addressed to AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey, Mohun Bagan congratulated the federation on the recent positive developments in the Supreme Court regarding the draft constitution case, praising the “commitment to due process and transparency”. However, the club raised sharp concerns over the Anwar matter, which has remained unresolved for more than a year. RevSportz has accessed the letter.
The case dates back to August 10, 2024, when Anwar prematurely ended his loan spell at Mohun Bagan and joined East Bengal on a five-year deal. He did so after obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from AIFF’s Player Status Committee, at his own risk. The transfer sparked a dispute, with Mohun Bagan questioning the process and seeking clarity on the regulatory framework.
In the letter, Mohun Bagan highlighted how “repeated hearing dates without finality strain resources and distract from sporting objectives”, leaving clubs, players, and fans in limbo. The club urged AIFF to set a clear timeline with firm hearing dates and written orders, and to consider regulatory changes to avoid such prolonged disputes in the future.
