Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in the first match of the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Saif Hassan and Towhid Hridoy were the heroes for Bangladesh.
Chasing a target of 169, Bangladesh lost their first wicket in the opening over, with Tanzid Hasan Tamim—who was their highest run-scorer in the last group match—falling early. Saif then built a 59-run partnership off 34 balls with captain Litton Das, which gave the innings some much-needed stability.
Following that, Saif and Hridoy added 54 runs from 45 balls, laying the foundation for Bangladesh’s victory. Shamim Hossain later joined Hridoy to put together a 45-run stand off 27 balls, which all but sealed the match. There was a bit of late drama when Bangladesh lost two wickets in three deliveries during the final over, but they eventually secured the win with one ball to spare.
Hasan played a brilliant knock of 61 from just 45 balls, including two fours and four sixes, at a strike rate of 135.56. Hridoy was dismissed after scoring 58 from 37 deliveries, striking four fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 156.76. For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dasun Shanaka took two wickets each.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to field. Only Shanaka managed to pass the fifty mark, scoring 64 off just 37 balls. None of the other batters were able to reach 40. For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman starred with the ball, finishing with figures of 3 for 20 in his four overs.
