India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, revealed the turning point of the India–Pakistan match, stating that Shivam Dube’s spell after the first drinks break shifted the momentum of the game.

Pakistan were cruising with the bat, having scored 91 runs in the first ten overs. Jasprit Bumrah had been taken apart, with the Men in Green scoring 34 runs off his first three overs. At the halfway mark, drinks were called on the field. Shortly afterwards, Pakistan lost three quick wickets – Dube accounted for two, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed one. That mini-collapse helped India restrict Pakistan to under 200 on what appeared to be a good batting surface.

“According to me, the turning point was the first drinks break in the first innings. People changed their body language after that. You usually see the game change after the powerplay, but today it changed after ten overs, when the bowlers adjusted their line and length, understood what was needed in that situation, and showed a bit more energy. The spinners bowled well. And in my opinion, Shivam Dube’s spell was, you could say, the turning point,” Suryakumar said at the press conference.

In his first over, Dube broke the dangerous-looking 72-run partnership by dismissing Saim Ayub. He then claimed the wicket of Pakistan’s top scorer, Sahibzada Farhan, for 58 in his third over. In between Dube’s overs, Hussain Talat was outfoxed by Kuldeep. Dube eventually finished as India’s most successful bowler, with figures of 2 for 33 in his four overs.

Behind the scenes, during practice sessions, Dube has been seen working hard on his bowling. He is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament after Kuldeep, with five wickets to his name in four games.
