Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif has criticised Pakistan’s middle-order batters for their performance against India in the Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2025. Speaking to Times of India, he slammed the batters for their slow approach.
“Pakistan were batting so well, how did it suddenly turn bad? You didn’t even try to be aggressive. They gave up. Why didn’t they try to attack in the middle overs, I don’t know,” Latif said.
Pakistan were in control early on as Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub put together a brilliant 72-run stand off 48 balls. However, after Ayub’s dismissal at 93/2 in the third ball of the 11th over, the run rate dipped. By the end of the 16th over, Pakistan were 121/4, losing momentum at a crucial stage.
Latif pointed to partnerships to highlight his concerns. “Sahibzada Farhan and Hussain Talat had a 17-run partnership in 17 balls. Farhan scored 5 off 6 deliveries, and Talat made 10 off 11. At that point, Pakistan was in control. You should have gone for your shots, even if you got out. Then Mohammad Nawaz came, and he too played slowly, never tried to accelerate the scoring rate. That’s why I don’t trust their batting or bowling.”
Despite reaching 171/5 in their 20 overs, Pakistan were no match for India’s dominance. Indian openers gave their side a blazing start, adding 105 runs in just 59 balls. Abhishek Sharma smashed 74 off 39 deliveries, while Shubman Gill fell three runs short of his half-century as eventually, India cruised to a six-wicket victory.
