Australia women’s cricket captain Alyssa Healy believes her team is fully prepared to pursue their eighth ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title, with the tournament set to begin on 1 October in India. The defending champions will play most of their matches in India and a few in Sri Lanka. They have already gained valuable practice from the recent three-day ODI warm-up series against India, which they won 2–1.

“Our group is incredibly well-balanced, with plenty of youth to complement the more experienced players. While for some it will be their first ODI World Cup, they’ve all had exposure to major tournaments and high-pressure series,” Healy wrote in her ICC column.

Healy, a two-time World Cup winner, said the blend of young and experienced players makes the team well-prepared for another title run.

Having recently returned from injury, Healy said she gained confidence during the warm-up matches in India, where Australia won the ODI series 2–1. “For me personally, having the opportunity to play that ‘A’ series at home was huge. Getting through six games of cricket in a short space of time was a big tick for me after coming back from injury,” she said.

Australia will play at least two of their matches in Sri Lanka, as Pakistan will be competing at a neutral venue. “As a team, we’ve not played in Sri Lanka since 2016, but plenty of our group have had experience there over the years with various development tours. It’ll be nice to get back there and hopefully have some success in our matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan,” Healy added.

Healy concluded by saying, “It’s going to be a cracking tournament this year… Our group is looking forward to the challenge and can’t wait to get going!”

The Alyssa Healy-led Australia side will begin their World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Indore.
