India opener Abhishek Sharma played a quick and powerful innings in the Asia Cup Super Four match against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday. Batting first, India scored 168 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Abhishek was the standout batter, scoring 75 runs from 37 balls, which helped the team reach a strong total.

The left-handed batter started aggressively from the very first over, smashing six boundaries and five maximums, with a strike rate of 202.70. He attacked all of Bangladesh’s bowlers, especially during the Powerplay, and continued to add runs to the scoreboard even as wickets fell at the other end. With this knock, Abhishek now holds the record for the most sixes in a single Asia Cup edition. He has hit 17 sixes in total, surpassing Sanath Jayasuriya’s record of 14 sixes in the 2008 ODI Asia Cup.

Abhishek’s innings ended with an unfortunate run-out. In the 11th over, a mix-up with captain Suryakumar Yadav caused him to dive, but he was unable to make it to the crease in time.

Nevertheless, his 75 runs had already helped India post a formidable total. Abhishek has shown excellent form in this tournament so far, having scored 248 runs in five matches.

The rest of the Indian batters had mixed performances. Shubman Gill started well but could only score 29 runs, while Hardik Pandya added 38 runs at the end, though he was dismissed on the last ball of the innings. Others, such as Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Tilak Varma, couldn’t make any significant impact with the bat.
