Though India did not receive the cup after winning the Asia Cup 2025 by defeating Pakistan in the final, some of their players found their own ways to celebrate. Varun Chakravarthy had a witty response to all the chaos that ensued.
India won the match by five wickets but were not awarded the trophy after they refused to accept it from Mohsin Naqvi, the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) president. Reportedly, Emirates Cricket Board vice-chairman Khalid Al Zarooni was requested to present the trophy; however, the request was denied. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia condemned Naqvi’s actions and promised to raise the matter at the ICC meeting next month.
Chakravarthy took a light-hearted jab at the whole situation. A day after winning the trophy, the world’s number one T20I spinner shared a post on X showing him lying on a bed, posing with a mug around his left arm. The leg-spinner also posted a picture of the Indian team lifting an imaginary cup on an empty podium. He captioned it: “Akkha duniya ek taraf, aur mere India ek taraf. Jai Hind.”
In the all-important final, Chakaravarthy took two crucial wickets in order to help his team restrict Pakistan to 146. He dismissed both openers—Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman—who had given Pakistan a flying start. The 34-year-old spinner finished with figures of 2/30 from his four overs, at an economy rate of 7.50.
