Parthiv Patel, former India wicketkeeper-batter, is disappointed with Sai Sudharsan’s performance against the West Indies in the first innings of the first Test in Ahmedabad. Speaking on JioHotstar, Parthiv said that Sudharsan was under pressure to play a big knock in order to cement his position in the Indian team.

“Sai Sudharsan looked a bit tentative today. He usually uses his feet really well, especially against left-arm spinners. With left-handed batters, we know that as soon as a left-arm spinner comes in, we try to rotate the strike and wait for the right ball to go after.” said Parthiv.

“But I thought Sai Sudharsan was probably feeling a bit of pressure to score big runs and secure that number three position. He just needs to stay calm.”

Sudharsan scored only seven runs off 19 balls before he was trapped LBW by the opposing captain, Roston Chase. Sudharsan was also included in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England and many experts had huge expectations from him. However, he had a poor England tour, scoring just 140 runs in three matches at an average of 23.33 with the best score of 61– his only fifty-plus score in that tour.

The 23-year-old left-hander has played 34 first-class matches, scoring 2345 runs at an average of 40.43 which includes eight centuries and eight half-centuries. He was brilliant in this year’s IPL, scoring 759 runs at an average of 54.21 and at a strike rate of 156.17. His IPL campaign included a hundred and six fifties.
