India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has added another feather to his cap as he became the sixth cricketer with six centuries in Test cricket and 300 wickets.
Jadeja entered the club which already contains great players like India’s Kapil Dev and Ravichandran Ashwin, Daniel Vettori, New Zealand’s former captain, Imran Khan, Pakistan’s World Cup-winning captain, and Ian Botham, the England great.
Jadeja achieved the feat against the West Indies when he completed his century in the first innings of the first Test played in Ahmedabad. Jadeja stitched a 204-run partnership with wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel that put India in a commanding position at the end of Day 2.
The 36-year-old left-hander put on a fine exhibition of batting. Earlier in his innings, he played the spinners with ease. He completed his half-century in just 75 balls. He then reached his century in 168 balls when he pushed Jomel Warrican for a single. At the end of the day, Jadeja remained unbeaten on 104 off 176 balls, an innings which included six fours and five sixes.
If Jadeja scores 10 more runs tomorrow, then he will join the elite list of players who have scored 4000 runs and have taken 300 wickets in Test cricket. Kapil, Vettori and Botham are already there in that list.
