The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ha handed a maiden ODI call-up to Saif Hassan for the three-match series against Afghanistan, starting on October 8. Litton Das has been left out of the 16-member squad. The wicketkeeper-batter continues to recover from a side strain sustained during the Asia Cup.

Saif’s selection comes on the back of a string of strong performances in this year’s Asia Cup. Batting at the top of the order, the right-handed batter amassed 178 runs across four innings at an average of 44.50, including two fifties.

Parvez Hossain Emon has been left out, as Bangladesh have preferred Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Mohammad Naim for this series. Saif also provides another option at the top.

“Litton Kumer Das misses out as he continues his recovery from a side strain, while Parvez Hossain Emon has been left out,” the BCB said in a statement.

“Right-hander Saif Hassan has earned a call-up to the ODI set-up for the first time. The 26-year-old has been included following a string of impressive performances in recent T20 internationals and is expected to add depth to the top order,” it added.

Meanwhile, ODI skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz, along with Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tanvir Islam, Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana, will travel to the UAE to join the rest of the squad.

Having already sealed the T20I series, Bangladesh will be looking to win the ODI series as well. All three ODIs will be played at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
