Shubman Gill, India skipper, said that his team has many excellent spinners, which is a good headache to have as a captain.
During the post-match presentation ceremony, Gill said: “When you get quality spinners like that, it’s difficult to rotate, but it’s better to have too many options than too few. That’s the challenge and fun of playing in India. Good thing is there’s always someone ready to make a difference.”
In the first Test of the ongoing series against the West Indies, India played three spinners– Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja. While Axar Patel had to warm the benches. The Caribbean side had no answer to the Indian spinners, and in the second innings, seven wickets were taken by the spin trio.
Gill expressed his happiness over the flawless game they played. He also praised the three batters who scored centuries.
“Six [tosses] losses in a row, but as long as we keep winning the matches, it doesn’t matter. Honestly, I think this was the perfect game for us. Three centuries, and we fielded really well, so no complaints.” said Gill.
India totally outplayed the West Indies in all departments. The visitors were bundled out for a low score in the first innings, after which the Indian batters took complete control of the game. KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja scored hundreds and India put on a huge score of 448/5 (declared). In the second innings, the Indian bowlers were once again dominant and the game ended in 3 days.
