New Zealand star Suzie Bates reached a huge career milestone on Monday by becoming the first woman to play 350 international matches. But the landmark day turned out to be a bitter one for the experienced batter in the Women’s World Cup 2025 match against South Africa in Indore.

New Zealand were asked to bat first, and opener Bates was dismissed on the very first ball of the match by South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp. It was her second straight duck of the tournament after the one against Australia in New Zealand’s first match.

The 38yearold all-rounder made her debut in 2006. She has played 173 ODIs and made 5,896 runs at an average of 39.57 and strike rate of 79.80. She smashed 13 centuries and 37 halfcenturies and also took 81 wickets. In T20Is, she has a tally of 4,716 runs in 177 matches apart from 61 wickets.

New Zealand captain Sophie Devine has also become a part of the 300 club. She is the seventh player to reach this mark, equalling Danni Wyatt-Hodge (300). She is just behind Bates, Harmanpreet Kaur (342), Ellyse Perry (341), Mithali Raj (333) and Charlotte Edwards (309).

New Zealand were bowled out for 231 runs in 47.5 overs. Both teams are looking for their first win in the tournament.
