Veteran pacer Mitchell Starc has been included in the 15-member squad for the three-match ODI series against India, while Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the five-match T20I series due to an injury. Pat Cummins was unavailable for selection. In his absence, Mitchell Marsh will lead the side in the eight white-ball games at home, which begin on 19 October.

Having already retired from T20I cricket, Starc will play an ODI for the first time since last November. Among the players left out of the squad are Marnus Labuschagne, Sean Abbott, Aaron Hardie, and Matthew Kuhnemann, all of whom were part of Australia’s previous ODI assignment against South Africa, in August this year. On the back of a good run in domestic cricket, Matthew Renshaw has been recalled to the ODI squad. Alongside the left-hand batter, Mitchell Owen and Matthew Short also return to both squads, following recoveries from a side strain and concussion respectively. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey will miss the Perth ODI, with Josh Inglis — who is included in both squads — taking the gloves for the series opener.
Cameron Green has been left out of the squad for the first two T20Is.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and the first two games of the T20 series, as there will be some player management towards the back end of the series while individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” said selection committee chair George Bailey.

“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together, as it’s an important period in the build-up to the World Cup next year. However, we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”
