Ahead of the start of the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy season, Prithvi Shaw scored a century while playing for Maharashtra against his former side on the first day of a three-day practice match in Pune.

At the MCA Stadium in Gahunje, opening the batting for Maharashtra, Shaw reached the three-figure mark in 144 deliveries. The right-hand batter looked composed against both pace and spin, facing a star-studded Mumbai, bowling attack comprising Shardul Thakur, Tushar Deshpande, Tanush Kotian, Shams Mulani, and all-rounder Shivam Dube. Shaw went on to score a mammoth 186 before being dismissed by left-arm spinner Shams Mulani.

With Shaw’s wicket, Mulani broke a massive 305-run partnership for the opening wicket. Arshin Kulkarni, Shaw’s opening partner, smashed 186 off just 140 deliveries, including 33 boundaries and four sixes.

Shaw, who made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the 2016–17 season, left his former domestic side and joined Maharashtra earlier this year. Shortly after joining Maharashtra, he participated in the Buchi Babu Tournament. In his debut game against Chhattisgarh in Chennai, the 25-year-old scored a century on a turning track.

Maharashtra will face the runners-up of the last season Kerala in their first match of the Ranji season at Thiruvananthapuram from 15 to 18 October.
