India pacer Mohammed Shami has spoken out about being overlooked for the upcoming Australia series.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Shami said that selection in the team depends on the decision of the selectors.

“There have been many rumours and memes,” said Shami. “People want to know my opinion on the non-selection for the Australia series. I will just say that getting selected is not in my hands; it’s the job of the selection committee, coach, and captain. If they feel I should be there, they will select me, or if they feel some more time is needed, it’s in their hands. I am ready and practising.”

Shami was last seen in action in international cricket during India’s victorious campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year. The veteran pacer was India’s joint-highest wicket-taker with nine wickets in five matches. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shami had a poor season, taking six wickets in nine matches. He only managed to feature in the Duleep Trophy game for East Zone.

“My fitness is also good. I will try to do better because when you are away from the ground, you need to remain motivated. I played in the Duleep Trophy. I felt very comfortable, my rhythm was good, and I bowled around 35 overs. There are no issues with my fitness,” added Shami.

The 35-year-old pacer was not selected for the Asia Cup, the ongoing series against the West Indies, or the Australia tour. However, he has been named in the Bengal squad for the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy season and will look to perform well to return to the national team.
