India pacer Arshdeep Singh has credited Jasprit Bumrah for his success in the shortest format of the game. Speaking on Breakfast with Champions, Arshdeep also revealed his learnings from a few other fast bowlers.
“So the vending machine or whatever the highest level is, goes to Jassi Bhai (Jasprit Bumrah). That goes to him,” he said. “After that, yes, if you press the yorker button in such a vending machine, if the ball falls somewhere close, if the batter gets out or does not go for a six, then yes, you can put me in that. So all the credit goes to Jassi Bhai for the way I bowl,” he added.
Arshdeep has taken the most number of wickets for India in T20Is, having bagged 101 scalps in 65 matches. He took 17 wickets from eight matches in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup and was instrumental in India’s victorious campaign.
The 26-year-old also added that he has picked up insights by watching Wasim Akram’s yorkers. “All left-arm pacers that are there on YouTube, I don’t think I’ve missed anyone’s video yet,” he said. “If I used to watch yorkers, I really liked Wasim Akram’s compilation video. In all the videos he was hitting only the stumps. A lefty throwing these in-swings in reverse swing to a righty, I used to enjoy it a lot. What a skill he had.”
Arshdeep played two matches in the recently concluded Asia Cup where he bowled an important Super-Over against Sri Lanka to help his team win the match. Incidentally, The left-arm pacer has been selected in the T20I as well as the ODI squads for the Australian tour.
