Another day in the two-match series between India and West Indies and another day of domination by the hosts! India cruised through the second day of the final Test at Arun Jaitley Stadium as Yashasvi Jaiswal, skipper Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja stood out with their performances. West Indies struggled to contain the Indian batters once again. They then failed to make a dent with their batting.

Looking back at the first session, Gill and Jaiswal continued their onslaught. The duo looked in complete control as Jaiswal inched towards a double century. But their partnership came to an unfortunate end when a mix-up caused a run out. Jaiswal called for a run but a “Yes. Wait. No” confusion ended his chances of getting a double. While the end was ill-fated, Jaiswal racked up 175 runs off 258 deliveries.

The attention then turned towards Gill, who looked on song and soon brought up a well-deserved tenth Test century and a fifth under the captain’s hat. Dhruv Jurel (44 off 79) played the perfect second fiddle as he stitched a 102-run partnership with the skipper. When Jurel was bowled by West Indies skipper Roston Chase, India declared at 518/5.

While the Indian pacers failed to get a breakthrough, a quick change to spin from both ends ended the wicket drought. The West Indies opening partnership was short-lived as John Campbell handed one to Sai Sudharsan at forward short-leg. Jadeja continued to pick up wickets, ending the day with figures of 3/37 from 14 overs. Apart from Campbell, he picked up the wickets of Tagenarine Chanderpaul and the West Indies captain. Kuldeep Yadav took the other wicket as the visitors ended the day at 140/4.

Looking back on the day, there were moments of resilience but ultimately, India are too strong for the West Indies. The day came to an early end as India were 16 minutes ahead with respect to their over rate.

West Indies trail by a mammoth 378 runs, with Shai Hope (31) and Tevin Imlach (14) at the crease. The highlights of the day for the fans in the stands were Gill’s century and some brilliant catching by Jadeja and Sudharsan.
