West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been fined for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the ongoing second Test match against India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The 24-year-old Trinidadian was found guilty of a Level 1 offence following an incident on the first day of the game involving Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The incident occurred during the 29th over of India’s first innings. After delivering the ball, Seales picked it up and threw it at Jaiswal, hitting him on the pads, despite the batter standing inside his crease. Match officials deemed the throw unnecessary and inappropriate. As a result, Seales has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for his actions.

Seales was sanctioned under Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which states: “Throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Paul Reiffel, along with third umpire Alex Wharf and fourth umpire K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan. The sanction was proposed by ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Andy Pycroft. In his defence, Seales claimed that he was attempting a run-out, but video replays confirmed that the throw was dangerous and unjustified.

With this penalty, Seales now has a total of two demerit points within the past 24 months. His previous demerit point came during a Test match against Bangladesh in December 2024.

After being asked to follow on by India, West Indies finished Day 3 at 173 for 2, trailing by 97 runs.
