After months of excitement and official confirmation, Argentina’s much-anticipated visit to Kerala in November for a friendly match now appears to be in doubt. According to a fresh report from an Argentine sports broadcaster TyC Sports, Lionel Scaloni’s world champions might revise their November tour schedule.

“The scheduled tour of the Argentine National Team for November could undergo modifications: the first match will be against Angola in the African country, and the second, which was initially planned in India, could also be moved to Africa, with Morocco as a possible opponent,” TyC Sports reported.

This update comes just days after the Argentina Football Association (AFA) had confirmed that the team would play friendlies in Luanda (Angola) and Kerala during the November international window. The visit was seen as a gesture of gratitude towards Kerala’s passionate fan base, who famously turned entire towns into Argentina-themed hubs during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Meanwhile, preparations in Kerala are in full swing. On October 7, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan chaired a high-level meeting to oversee arrangements for hosting Argentina at Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium. The meeting focused on upgrading the venue to international standards, ensuring proper security, traffic management, crowd control, and other logistical measures.

However, the latest developments have left fans anxious. For many, the dream of watching Lionel Messi play in Kerala might have to wait a little longer.

Nonetheless, there’s a silver lining — Indian fans will still get to witness the Argentine legend later this year. Lionel Messi’s GOAT Tour 2025 is set to arrive in India from December 13–15, featuring exhibition matches, concerts, and star appearances across Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi.
