Prithvi Shaw’s debut for Maharashtra got off to a disappointing start. Kerala won the toss against Maharashtra and opted to bowl at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Expectations were high for the 25-year-old, but he received an incoming delivery from MD Nidheesh and was trapped LBW for a four-ball duck.
Maharashtra were in serious trouble, having lost half their side for just 18 runs in 10.4 overs. At present, two experienced players, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Jalaj Saxena, are battling it out in the middle, and the responsibility of guiding Maharashtra to a respectable total rests on their shoulders.
Shaw obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from his former team, Mumbai, to switch to Maharashtra this season. In his first outing for the new side, the dynamic right-handed batter scored a century in the Buchi Babu Tournament.
A few days ago, in a three-day practice match against Mumbai in Pune, Shaw played an outstanding knock of 181 runs off 220 balls, including 21 fours and three sixes. He shared a 305-run opening partnership with Arshin Kulkarni, which helped Maharashtra post a big total in that match.
His international career began with a bang, as he scored a century on his Test debut against the West Indies. The right-hander last represented India in 2021 in a T20I match against Sri Lanka.
