Rishad Hossain’s sensational six-wicket haul helped Bangladesh defeat the West Indies by 74 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday.

Chasing a target of 208, the West Indies openers added 51 runs for the first wicket before Rishad struck. The leg-spinner tore through the West Indies batting line-up, reducing them to 92 for 5. After that, the Men in Maroon were unable to recover. Rishad ended the West Indies innings by dismissing Jayden Seales to seal the win for his team. Brandon King was the top scorer for the West Indies, making 44 runs. Rishad finished with figures of 6 for 35 in his nine overs, at an economy rate of 3.90. The 23-year-old was named Player of the Match.

Earlier, the West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. Bangladesh had a poor start, losing their first two wickets for just eight runs. A 71-run partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy provided much-needed stability to the innings. Hridoy played a fine knock, scoring 51 runs, including three fours. Mahidul Islam Ankon also batted well, contributing 46 runs. For the West Indies, Seales emerged as the most successful bowler, taking three wickets.

The second ODI is scheduled to be played on October 21.
