England defeated New Zealand by 65 runs in the second T20I of the three-match series at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Phil Salt and captain Harry Brook were brilliant with the bat while Adil Rashid took a four-fer to give England 1-0 lead. There was no result in the first match due to rain.

New Zealand won the toss and opted to field. Jos Buttler could not do much with the bat as he was dismissed for four. Salt and Brook put on a partnership of 129 runs that not only provided the solidity to the England innings but also was instrumental in taking England to a big score of 236/4. Salt scored 85 off 56 balls, including 11 fours and a six at a strike rate of 151.79. Brook played a flamboyant knock of 78 off 35 balls, including six fours and five sixes at a blistering strike rate of 222.86. None of the Kiwi bowlers could make any impact and proved to be costly.

New Zealand lost two early wickets as Brydon Carse struck twice in the second over. Tim Seifert and Mark Chapman tried to build the innings and added 69 runs for the third wicket. After that, there was a mini collapse as the Kiwis lost four wickets for 17 runs. Captain Mitchell Santner played well lower down the order for his 36 but that was not enough. Rashid finished with figures of 4/32. Brook was adjudged the Player of the Match.
