
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma put on an unbeaten 168-run partnership against Australia in the final ODI of the three-match series at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday, October 25. The partnership between the two batting stalwarts in Sydney takes their tally to twelve 150-plus stands in ODI cricket — the joint-highest by any pair, alongside Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
This was Rohit and Kohli’s 19th century stand in ODI cricket, the third-highest by any pair, surpassing Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan’s 18-century partnerships in this format. Tendulkar and Ganguly once again top the list with 26 such partnerships, while Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara are second with 20.
Rohit hit a brilliant century in this match, scoring an unbeaten 121 off 125 balls to take India to victory. He also became the second-oldest Indian to score a century. Rohit’s age is 38 years and 178 days, while Tendulkar was 38 years and 327 days when he hit a century in 2012.
This was Rohit’s 17th ODI century in a run chase, the second-highest by an Indian, as he levelled with Tendulkar. Kohli tops the chart with 28.
Kohli scored 74 in this match — his 70th fifty in run chases — the highest by any batter in the world, surpassing Tendulkar, who had 69 fifties while chasing. Rohit stands third on this list with 55.
