Services wrapped up a stunning win by eight wickets over Assam in a match that lasted just four sessions. Ravindra Jadeja went wicketless after sending down 18 overs against Madhya Pradesh, who are in a strong position courtesy Yash Dubey’s unbeaten 109. After being left out of the Indian Test squad, Karun Nair made a strong statement with an unbeaten 176 to give Karnataka the upper hand over Goa.

Assam vs Services

In the shortest recorded Ranji Trophy match by balls, Services defeated Assam by eight wickets inside just 90 overs in less than two days at the Tinsukia District Sports Association Ground. The match lasted just four sessions. After losing five wickets in their second innings yesterday, Assam were bowled out for 75. Services chased down the target of 71 in the first session itself to make this the shortest Ranji Trophy game in history, with only 540 balls bowled. This record surpassed the Delhi-Railways clash in 1961-62, which ended after 547 balls.

Maharashtra vs Chandigarh

Vicky Ostwal’s six-wicket haul put Maharashtra in the driver’s seat against Chandigarh on their home turf. Chandigarh started well with a 68-run partnership before Ramakrishna Ghosh broke the stand. The right-arm pacer picked up another wicket in the same spell.

Ostwal then claimed the important wicket of Chandigarh skipper Manan Vohra, after which a collapse followed.

The Maharashtra bowlers kept chipping away with wickets. If not for the 75-run partnership for the ninth wicket between Nishunk Birla and Raman Bishnoi, the hosts would have struggled to score even 150, as they had lost eight wickets with only 126 runs on the board. Prithvi Shaw and Arshin Kulkarni came out all guns blazing and took Maharashtra’s lead to 170 by the end of Day 2.

Saurashtra vs Madhya Pradesh

After bowling just 36 overs yesterday, Ravindra Jadeja delivered the most overs for his side on Day 2. In his 18 overs, he couldn’t pick up a wicket. He trapped Harpreet Singh Bhatia leg-before, but was ruled to have overstepped.

Leading Madhya Pradesh’s charge was opener Dubey, who scored his fifth first-class hundred. The 26-year-old was involved in two important partnerships — first with his opening partner Harsh Gawali and then with Himanshu Mantri. Of the 195 runs MP scored, 109 came from his bat. The right-handed batter will resume tomorrow. Jaydev Unadkat tried eight bowling options but couldn’t dislodge the centurion.

Vidarbha vs Jharkhand

Jharkhand skipper Ishan Kishan scored 45 as his team was bowled out for 332 before stumps were called. The wicketkeeper-batter’s innings was cut short by right-arm pacer Praful Hinge, who finished with figures of 3/63. Nachiket Bhute was the best bowler for Vidarbha with figures of 4/41. The hosts put up a much better performance compared to yesterday. After conceding 119 runs on a shortened opening day, Vidarbha bundled out Jharkhand as the visitors could add only 213 on Day 2.

Karnataka vs Goa

A commanding hundred from Karun Nair guided Karnataka to 371. After a top-order collapse yesterday, Karun’s 176, Shreyas Gopal’s 57, and meaningful contributions from the lower middle-order kept the Goa bowlers at bay for most of the day. Karun’s hundred came after his omission from the Test squad for the recently concluded two-match series against the West Indies. Goa trail by 343 runs after losing opener Manthan Khutkar. Abhilash Shetty picked up the wicket to end the day on a high for Karnataka in Shimoga.

Punjab vs Kerala

Resuming from 240/6, Punjab went on to post 436 runs in their first innings, thanks largely to 22-year-old Harnoor Singh’s 170. The Kerala bowlers toiled hard but couldn’t keep the run rate in check. The biggest partnership for Punjab came from the No. 9 and 10, as Prerit Dutta and Mayank Markande added 111 for the ninth wicket.

That partnership frustrated the Kerala bowlers in Mullanpur. Things got worse towards the end as they lost opener Nedumankuzhy Basil in the last half-hour of the day to finish at 15/1. The visitors trail by 421 runs.
