Indian pacer Navdeep Saini believes performing well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has now become the top priority to get noticed by the national selectors.

Speaking after Delhi’s Ranji Trophy match against Himachal Pradesh, Saini also noted that an injury resulted in him losing form and fitness. “Yes, whether one likes it or not, to play for India, you have to do well in the IPL. It is a reality. A year before, I had a shoulder injury and my pace dropped-it cost me an IPL contract,” Saini told reporters.

Saini has played 2 Tests, 8 ODIs, and 11 T20Is for India. He last played for the national team in 2021 against Australia. In first-class cricket, he has 207 wickets in 75 matches. Meanwhile, in the IPL, Saini has represented two different franchises – Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals – where he played a total of 32 matches, taking 23 wickets at an average of 42.34 and economy rate of 8.88.

In the ongoing Ranji Trophy clash against Himachal Pradesh, Saini stood out for Delhi, taking two crucial wickets in nine overs at an economy rate of 2.22.
