
Prithvi Shaw’s 141-ball whirlwind double ton against Chandigarh was the highlight on Day 3 of the latest round of Ranji Trophy games. Nagaland’s epic fightback, where they recovered from a precarious 31 for 4 to post 365 for 5 against Tamil Nadu at stumps, was also one of the cornerstones of the day.
Vidarbha versus Jharkhand
Aman Mokhade was the star performer for the defending champions, Vidarbha, as they ended Day 3 of their Ranji Trophy game against Jharkhand at 239 for 2, still in arrears by 93 runs. The opener cracked 10 fours and two sixes in his innings. On the other hand, Sahil Raj was the lone wicket-taker for Jharkhand, with the other wicket coming in the form of a run-out.
Mumbai versus Chhattisgarh
A collective bowling performance from Mumbai gave them the upper hand over Chhattisgarh in a Ranji Trophy Elite Group D game. On a day marred by rain, Chhattisgarh were in trouble at 175 for 6, still behind by 241. The spin trio of Himanshu Singh, Musheer Khan and Shams Mulani took two wickets apiece. Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane’s hundred had powered Mumbai to a substantial score of 416.
Maharashtra versus Chandigarh
Prithvi Shaw headlined Maharashtra’s dominance over Chandigarh with a whirlwind 156-ball unbeaten 222. His innings helped Maharashtra to declare their second innings at 359 for 3. Shaw’s bombastic knock also turned out to be the third-fastest double ton in the history of the Ranji Trophy, with him reaching the 200-mark in just 141 deliveries.
Tanmay Agarwal took 119 deliveries to reach that milestone while Ravi Shastri had completed that landmark in 123 deliveries. At stumps, Chandigarh were 129 for 1, still needing 335 more runs to post a famous win.
Saurashtra versus Madhya Pradesh
Saransh Jain (103 not out) and Yash Dubey (159) were the cornerstones of Madhya Pradesh’s recovery against Saurashtra, with the duo sharing a stand of 118 for the 8th wicket. The pair’s alliance helped MP to end the day’s play at 355 for 9 after slipping to 203 for 7. It also meant that MP now have a lead of 95. For Saurashtra, Jaydev Unadkat took a four-for.
Tamil Nadu versus Nagaland
In what turned out to be a day of fluctuating fortunes, Nagaland’s sterling comeback while playing Tamil Nadu stood out. At one point, Nagaland were in dire straits at 31 for 4, with the promising left-arm pacer Gurjapneet Singh claiming a memorable hat-trick. However, on the back of impressive hundreds from Dega Nischal (161 not out) and Imliwati Lemtur (115 not out), Nagaland finished the day at 365 for 5. On the flip side, they are still adrift by 147 runs.
