Decision on Shreyas Iyer treatment to be taken in the next 48 hours: BCCI sources

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in consultation with the Indian team management in Canberra and its medical team, is set to take a decision on Shreyas Iyer’s treatment over the 48 hours.

Shreyas was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Sydney hospital following some internal bleeding. He had suffered a laceration of the spleen as a result of a lower-rib injury sustained while taking a tumbling catch to dismiss Alex Carey in the third ODI against Australia on Saturday.

Sources close to the team – currently in Canberra for the start of the T20I series on October 29 – told RevSportz that a final call had yet to be taken on further treatment. “Canberra is in constant touch with Sydney,” said the source. The team doctor had stayed back in Sydney with Shreyas even as the rest of the staff flew to the Australian capital.

With inputs from their medical staff and specialists, the BCCI will weigh up whether Shreyas continues to be treated at the same hospital or whether he is moved elsewhere. By then, there would also be a decision on whether he needs surgery or just a period of recovery.
