Shreyas Iyer on Thursday shared a health update for the first time since suffering a serious injury during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney.

The vice-captain of the ODI team shared a heartfelt message on social media, thanking his well-wishers for their constant support during his recovery.

“I’m currently in the recovery process and getting better with every passing day. I’m deeply grateful for all the kind wishes and support I’ve received – it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts,” Iyer wrote on Instagram.

The injury occurred when Iyer took a brilliant running catch to dismiss Alex Carey during the first innings of the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground. After completing the catch, he appeared to be in visible discomfort and was seen holding his lower left rib before walking off the field with team physio Kamlesh Jain. He was immediately taken to hospital for scans and further treatment.

Initially, it was believed that he had suffered an injury to his ribs. Later, scans revealed a laceration to his spleen.

“Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25 October 2025,” the BCCI said on 27 October. “He was taken to hospital for further evaluation. Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well.”

Another update from the BCCI on October 28 stated: “Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding on 25 October during the third ODI against Australia. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation.”

As RevSportz earlier reported, Iyer is likely to remain on the sidelines for two months, which puts his participation in the ODI series at home against New Zealand in doubt.
