Amanjot Kaur took the all-important catch of South African captain Laura Wolvaardt, who top-scored in the final, which proved to be a decisive moment in India’s victory.
After the match, Amanjot said:“We all knew how important the catch was. It was the first time ever in my life. I’m glad that I got that second chance to take the catch. I don’t have words to express it.”
Wolvaardt played a captain’s knock of 101 off 98 balls but could not guide her team to victory as she attempted to slog-sweep Deepti Sharma and was caught by Amanjot at deep midwicket after a juggle.
Amanjot also expressed her gratitude to the crowd at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai for their support.
“I think it’s their victory as well because they came in huge numbers to support us. Thank you, Mumbai. This is for you. This is for everyone. This is for Pratika, who missed out due to injury. I know how it feels when you miss a match because of injury. I’ve always said that not everything is good, but there is good in everything. I am very grateful,” she added.
Renuka Singh Thakur shared insights about her bowling plans, saying that she followed the tactics South Africa had used by employing more slower balls.
“There wasn’t much movement, but we saw that the South Africans were using a lot of slower ones, so I tried the same. Secondly, we’ve played a lot of games at the DY Patil, so we know how to bowl here. It’s a lucky ground for us,” she said.
