The Big Bash League (BBL) and Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) have launched a new fan campaign called “Keep the Ball.” The leagues announced the initiative on social media, giving spectators a chance to take the match ball home during the upcoming BBL and WBBL seasons.
On Instagram, they shared a post that read, “Ever wanted a match ball? Big Bash fans have the opportunity to take home a piece of the action this summer with the introduction of Westpac’s Keep the Ball!”
They also released a promotional video stating, “During the first over of each innings, keep your eyes on the game. If the ball reaches the crowd, you could be taking it home. Big Bash means big hits. Eyes up — if the ball reaches you in the first over, it’s all yours to keep, all thanks to a little Westpac.”
The decision aims to maintain consistency in the game, allowing fans to keep the ball as a souvenir instead of returning it. At the end of the first over of every game, a new ball will be provided and that will be used for the remainder of the innings.
The campaign, supported by Westpac, seeks to make match days more memorable and exciting for fans attending the games.
The WBBL begins on November 9, with Brisbane Heat facing Melbourne Renegades in Brisbane. Meanwhile, the BBL kicks off on December 14, featuring Perth Scorchers against Sydney Sixers in Perth.
