The much-discussed Asia Cup trophy presentation controversy was informally discussed on the sidelines of the recent ICC Board meeting, with representatives from both boards exchanging views on how to move forward from the incident. It was BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia who briefly initiated the conversation.
Contrary to speculation, the BCCI has not expressed any anger or sent strongly worded communication to PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Both boards have maintained a calm and measured approach, preferring to handle the matter privately.
According to multiple sources, a committee or panel may not be formed at all, as mutual contacts and intermediaries are attempting to mediate between the two boards. The focus remains on resolving the matter quietly, without public confrontation or escalation.
Naqvi, for his part, has conveyed his willingness to participate in discussions “whenever required,” either in person or virtually, to help bring closure to the issue.
In the next couple of weeks, a few possible solutions are expected to be placed before both parties to amicably settle the Asia Cup trophy row. Importantly, the episode is not expected to impact the working relationship between the PCB and BCCI in multilateral ICC events, a clear sign that both sides are prioritising cricket over controversy.
