Team India pacer Renuka Singh Thakur returned to her village, Parsa, after India’s historic triumph in the 2025 ICC ODI Women’s World Cup. The fast bowler credited her mother and uncle for guiding and supporting her throughout her journey to the top.

“I feel really happy to be here, especially because of the documentary they made for me. I think this is the best gift I could have received,” Renuka told ANI during the celebration. Her villagers surprised her with a special documentary showcasing her journey to the World Cup.

She added that her “hard work is yielding results, the credit goes to my mother and Bhupinder uncle, who spotted my talent and supported me.” Earlier in the day, Renuka visited the Hateshwari Mata Temple to offer prayers, expressing her gratitude after achieving her dream.

Speaking about her family, Renuka said, “I do not have any words for my mother’s struggle. No amount of words can be enough to describe what she went through. I would like to give credit for this to everyone—my coaches, my uncle, and all the people who helped me right from my childhood.” She recalled how her mother raised her and her brother alone after losing their father.

Renuka also praised her uncle’s guidance, saying, “My mother played a big role in my success. I also worked very hard, and my uncle supported me a lot. Had he not seen me and sent me to an academy at the right time, I would not be here.”

Renuka believes India’s World Cup win “will inspire many families to allow their children, especially girls, to pursue sports seriously,” making her story a symbol of hope for young athletes.

The Himachal Pradesh Government felicitated Renuka for her contribution, while Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a reward of ₹1 crore and a government job as a token of appreciation.
