Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has directed its players to remain in Pakistan to complete the remainder of the three-match ODI series, which is scheduled to run until November 29. Several Sri Lanka players and members of the support staff requested to return home following Tuesday’s bomb attack in Islamabad, the city where they are currently staying.

In response, SLC issued a media release warning that players of the men’s national team and members of the support staff would face “a formal review” if they chose to leave the ongoing white-ball tour of Pakistan due to security concerns.

“In this context, SLC has instructed all players, support staff, and team management to continue with the tour as scheduled,” the SLC statement read. “However, should any player or member of the touring party decide to return to Sri Lanka despite the directive issued by SLC to continue with the tour, Sri Lanka Cricket will immediately send replacements to ensure that the tour continues without interruption. If any player or member of the support staff returns despite SLC’s directives, a formal review will be conducted to assess their actions, and an appropriate decision will be made upon the conclusion of the review.”

It is pertinent to note that Sri Lanka are currently engaged in a three-match ODI series against Pakistan, with the home side leading 1–0. The remaining two ODIs of the series will now be played on 14 and 16 November, respectively, both fixtures having been postponed by a day.

Sri Lanka have opted to continue their tour despite security concerns in Pakistan, while Zimbabwe have also arrived in the country for the Tri-Series featuring Pakistan and Sri Lanka, scheduled to begin on November 17.
