Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan opened up about trading Ravindra Jadeja, saying the decision was taken by the team management after the veteran all-rounder agreed to move to Rajasthan Royals (RR). Along with Jadeja, Sam Curran has also been traded.
CSK have brought in former RR skipper Sanju Samson in return for Jadeja and Curran.
Explaining the decision made by the five-time winners, Viswanathan said in a video released by CSK on their official YouTube channel: “We must consult the players concerned, and it was only after mutual agreement that we undertook this.”
Jadeja will be seen playing for RR in the upcoming season—the franchise for which he made his IPL debut. Having played 254 games, the 36-year-old is one of the most experienced players in the league. The spin-bowling all-rounder made his debut for CSK in 2012 and, since then, was a constant part of the successful franchise except for the 2016 and 2017 seasons, when CSK was banned. Jadeja was instrumental in CSK’s title wins in 2018, 2021 and 2024.
“This decision has been taken by the team management, and it is a very tough decision, leaving out Jaddu, who has been responsible for CSK’s success over the years. It was probably one of the toughest decisions the team management has had to take. Considering the transition CSK is going through at this point in time, the team management took the toughest decision. When I spoke to Jadeja, he was also very clear that, if there was an opportunity for him, he would take it, because he felt he is in the fag end of his white-ball career. So he also felt that he could have a break,” Viswanathan added in the video.
