Taijul Islam reached a major milestone in his career as he became the leading wicket-taker for Bangladesh in Test cricket. He went past Bangladesh legend Shakib Al Hasan, who has taken 246 wickets in his glorious career.
Taijul now stands at 249 wickets after taking his third wicket in the second innings of the ongoing final Test of the two-match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
Starting the day, Bangladesh strengthened their position and declared at 297/4, giving Ireland a huge target of 509 runs. In reply, Ireland had a poor start as Taijul dismissed both openers within the eighth over. Cade Carmichael and Harry Tector then built a partnership of 51. Carmichael scored 19 before he was trapped LBW by Hasan Murad.
After that, Tector added 41 runs with Curtis Campher. Tector reached his fifty but could not add more, as he was caught by Mushfiqur Rahim off Murad’s bowling. Taijul’s third wicket of the day was Stephen Doheny. By stumps, Campher was batting on 34 while Andy McBrine was unbeaten on 11. Ireland still need 333 more runs to win the match with four wickets remaining.
