India’s top-seeded women’s doubles pair, Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, made a superb start to their campaign with a thrilling victory to secure a place in the pre-quarterfinals of the Syed Modi India International HSBC World Tour Super 300 Badminton Championship 2025.
In men’s doubles, last year’s runners-up and second seeds, India’s Sai Pratheek K. and Prithvi Krishnamurthy Rai, also eased into the next round with a comfortable win.
Organised by the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), the main draw matches in women’s and men’s doubles took place on Tuesday at the Yonex Sunrise Babu Banarasi Das Badminton Academy.
In the most exciting women’s doubles match of the day, defending champions Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand overcame Malaysia’s Cheng Su Hui and Tain Jing Yi in a gripping 1 hour 14-minute contest, winning 19–21, 22–20, 21–9. After losing the first game despite an early lead, Trisha and Gayatri — the Commonwealth Games bronze medallists — made a strong comeback, clinching the next two games in a tight battle.
In men’s doubles, second-seeded Indians Sai Pratheek K. and Prithvi Krishnamurthy Rai defeated compatriots Swarnraj Bora and Nibir Ranjan 21–8, 21–17 in a straightforward contest.
UP’s Shruti Mishra advances in women’s doubles
Uttar Pradesh’s Shruti Mishra, partnering with Priya Konjengbam, registered a convincing win to enter the next round. However, other UP pairs Samriddhi Singh and Tanisha Singh bowed out in the opening round. Shruti and Priya defeated Samriddhi Singh and Reeva 21–8, 21–11.
Ukraine’s fourth-seeded Polina Buhrova and Yevheniya Kantemyr defeated India’s Tanisha Singh and Sakshi Gehlawat 21–9, 21–19.
In men’s doubles, India’s fifth seeds M.R. Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan secured a comfortable win over Ayush Makheja and Sujay Tamboli, 21–11, 21–13. Chinese Taipei’s fourth seeds Huang Jui-Shuan and Chih-Wei He beat India’s Shashank Chetri and Nitin Kumar 21–19, 21–15, while India’s Viplav Kuvale and Viraj Kuvale overcame compatriots Aditya Diwakar and Kevin Thangam 22–20, 16–21, 21–19.
Qualifiers – Match Results
Several Indian shuttlers delivered outstanding performances in the qualifiers to book their places in the main draw. In men’s singles, Abhinav Thakur, Orjit Chaliha, Arya, and Bharat Raghav advanced. In women’s singles, Prakriti Bharat, Adita Rao, and Alisha Nayak moved into the main draw.
In mixed doubles, Mithilesh P. Krishnan & Varna, Vishakha Toppo & Bhavya Chhabra, C. Lalramsanga & Tarini Suri, and Nitin HV & Shrinidhi Narayan secured wins.
In men’s doubles, Bhavya Chhabra & Param Chaudhary, Mayank Rana & Aryan, Asith Surya & Ganesh, and Ayush Agarwal & Daksh Gautam all advanced.
In women’s doubles, Aarti Sara Sunil & V. Vishwanath, Jenith & Likhita Srivastava, and VR Nardhana & Riddhivanshi Ramaswamy registered victories.
