Former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis has decided not to register for the upcoming IPL auction, which will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16. Instead, he will take on a ‘new challenge’ by playing in the PSL next year.
This announcement comes days after he was released by the Delhi Capitals, who bought him in the last auction and made him vice-captain.
For the last 14 seasons, du Plessis has been part of the IPL, in which he has played 154 matches and scored 4,773 runs. The former Proteas batter spent most of his time in the IPL with CSK, from 2012 to 2021. Apart from CSK and DC, du Plessis was also part of RCB and RPSG.
“After 14 seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year,” du Plessis wrote in a social media post. “It’s a big decision, and one that comes with a lot of gratitude when I look back. This league has been a massive part of my journey. I’ve been lucky to play with world-class team-mates, for amazing franchises, and in front of fans whose passion is like nothing else. Fourteen years is a long time, and I’m proud of what this chapter has meant to me. India has a special place in my heart, and this certainly isn’t a goodbye — you’ll see me again.”
Having played only six matches between 2019 and 2021 in the PSL, du Plessis is looking forward to playing in Pakistan. “This year, I’ve chosen to take on a new challenge and will be playing in the upcoming PSL season. It’s an exciting step for me- a chance to experience something new, to grow as a player, and to embrace a league filled with incredible talent and energy,” his note added.
