South Africa legend Jacques Kallis praised Marco Jansen and called him a ‘premium all-rounder’.
Kallis said during an interaction with the Indian media that Jansen was always special with the ball in hand, and now his batting has improved a lot.
“He’s always been magnificent with the ball. Perhaps in previous years, he didn’t quite fulfil his talent with the bat. He’s certainly turned that around now. He’s a premium all-rounder now. I think he’s going to play a massive role in the SA20.”
Jansen had a key role in South Africa’s clean sweep against India in the recently finished two-match Test series. He played a brilliant knock of 93 in the first innings of the second Test in Guwahati and built an important partnership of 97 runs with centurion Senuran Muthusamy to take South Africa to a big score of 489.
Then with the ball, he took six wickets and pushed India further on the back foot. The 25-year-old was named the Player of the Match for his performance. In a series dominated by spinners, he became the second-highest wicket-taker with 12 wickets.
He carried his good form into the ODIs and played a fighting knock of 70 in 39 balls in the first ODI of the three-match series in Ranchi to give some hope to South Africa fans when his team was struggling.
Kallis added: “He’s had a massive year, hasn’t he? He’s always had the potential. It was just a matter of figuring his game out. He’s obviously figured it out now and is getting a good balance.”
