England have made one change to their playing XI for the second Test of the five-match Ashes series in Brisbane, starting on 4 December. Will Jacks has replaced Mark Wood for the day–night affair.
Jacks has been preferred to the specialist spinner Shoaib Bashir, who has played more Tests than the off-spinning all-rounder.
In Perth, England went with an all-pace attack. While the bowlers fared well, the batting imploded, which is why the visitors have brought in a more balanced option in Jacks, who can contribute with both bat and ball.
“It’s something I’m really looking forward to,” he told the ECB’s in-house media. “To be on an Ashes tour in the first place is something I wouldn’t have been expecting a few months ago. But it’s been amazing to be here, to be around this team… to be in the XI is a dream come true, to play an Ashes series away from home.”
Having played just two Tests in his short career, Jacks is set to play his first pink-ball Test.
“Personally, I’ll just be looking to add a little bit to the team in each of the three facets of the game. I know I can affect the game in a positive way like that, and I’ll just be doing my best to support whenever the team needs me,” he added.
After picking up another injury, Wood has been left out. The Durham pacer will have two weeks to get fit for the third Test in Adelaide.
England XI: 1 Zak Crawley, 2 Ben Duckett, 3 Ollie Pope, 4 Joe Root, 5 Harry Brook, 6 Ben Stokes (capt), 7 Jamie Smith (wk), 8 Will Jacks, 9 Gus Atkinson, 10 Brydon Carse, 11 Jofra Archer.
