The Delhi Capitals (DC) pulled off what many would call one of steals of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, securing South African middle-order stalwart David Miller at his base price of just ₹2 crore.
Miller, renowned as one of the game’s best finishers, was expected to be among the highest bids in the 2026 auctions. Many expected a fierce bidding war, particularly from his former franchise, the Gujarat Titans (GT). This expectation was fuelled by GT’s recent trade of power-hitter Sherfane Rutherford, creating a clear void in their middle batting order that Miller’s experience and power-hitting abilities seemed perfect to fill.
Miller’s championship-winning form with GT in 2022 remains a testament to his value, where he was instrumental with 481 runs at a phenomenal average of 68.71 and strike-rate of 142.73.
However, his performance this year with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was rather inconsistent as compared to his earlier seasons with GT. He scored only 153 runs across 11 matches and there was a clear dip in his strike-rate. He was released by LSG ahead of the mini-auction. Despite the inconsistency, he achieved a personal milestone by completing 3,000 career IPL runs during the season.
LSG had bought him for 7.5 crore in the IPL Mega auction 2025. The Capitals have often struggled for an overseas batsman who can both navigate the middle overs and unleash carnage at the death. Miller could provide the perfect blend of reliability and firepower in the DC squad. Securing a player of this calibre at base price gives DC the added advantage of significant financial flexibility for the remainder of the auction.
