
India’s young wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu smashed an unbeaten double century in the Under-19 Asia Cup against Malaysia in Dubai. His brilliant unbeaten 209-run knock helped India post a mammoth total of 408 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the Group A match on Tuesday, December 16.
Kundu played a composed yet attacking knock as he remained unbeaten on 209 off 125 balls. He smashed 17 boundaries and nine sixes at a strike rate of 167.20.
Apart from Kundu, Vedant Trivedi also played an important role with a steady 90 runs. Together, the duo added 209 runs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi also contributed 50 runs off 26 balls, striking at 192.30.
Malaysia took early wickets of captain Ayush Mhatre (14) and Vihaan Malhotra (7) but struggled to stop India from scoring big. Muhammad Akram was the pick of the bowlers as he took a five-wicket haul. Akram dismissed Vihaan Malhotra, Suryavanshi, Harvansh Pangalia (5), Kanishk Chouhan (14) and Khilan Patel (2). Nagineswaran Sathnakumaran and Jaashwin Krishnamurthi also picked one wicket each.
While chasing, Malaysia collapsed and lost six wickets in 16 overs before the drinks break. Both openers, Azib Wajdi and Mohammad Hairil, were dismissed for ducks. Muhd Afinid (12), Muhammad Aalif (1), Muhammad Fathul Muin (6) and Akram (0) also failed to make an impact. Deepesh Devendran picked up four wickets for India, while Kishan Singh and Udhav Mohan took one wicket each.
