In what comes as a huge boost to women’s cricket in India’s domestic circuit, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approved a 2.5 times increase in match fees for women cricketers. The decision was taken at its Apex Council meeting, sources have confirmed.
As per the revised structure, senior women cricketers playing 50-over domestic matches will now earn Rs 50,000 per match if they are part of the playing XI. Reserves will receive Rs 25,000 per match. In the T20 format, players in the playing XI will earn Rs 25,000 per match, with reserves set to receive Rs12,500.
Junior women cricketers have also been included in the revised pay scale. For junior women’s 50-over matches, players in the playing XI will receive Rs 25,000 per match, while reserves will be paid Rs 12,500 per match. For T20 matches, the fees will be Rs 11,500 and Rs. 6,250. This move is expected to significantly strengthen the domestic pipeline and provide greater financial security to young cricketers aiming to progress to the next level.
The upward revision in match fees is a continuation of the reforms initiated in 2023, when the then BCCI Secretary Jay Shah ensured equal match fees for centrally contracted men’s and women’s cricketers. Since then, steady improvements have been made in the financial ecosystem surrounding women’s cricket.
The latest decision underlines the BCCI’s growing focus on strengthening women’s cricket at the grassroots and domestic level, recognising its role in sustaining India’s success on the international stage.
