Devendra Bora produced a memorable outing against Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Jaipur on December 26. While all the eyes were on the former Indian Captain Rohit Sharma, Bora delivered a perfect start to Uttarakhand by dismissing the former India captain for a golden duck.
Bora got a massive breakthrough in the very first over by dismissing Rohit. Bowling with great confidence, the 25-year-old trapped Rohit into playing a pull shot, but the ball went to hands of Jagmohan Nagarkoti in deep square leg. The Sawai Mansingh Stadium fell silent after the priceless wicket of their hero who entered this match after scoring 155 runs off 94 balls against Sikkim.
This match was the third A list match for Bora. After Rohit’s wicket he picked the crucial wickets of Siddhesh Lad (21) and Shams Mulani (48). He conceded 74 runs at the economy rate of 7.40. His efforts helped Mumbai to stop at 331/7 in 50 overs.
Before this game, Bora had already picked four wickets against Himachal Pradesh in the opening match for Uttarakhand on December 24. Apart from List A match Bora has played 15 Ranji Trophy matches and picked 30 wickets at an economy rate of 3.54. His best performance was against Bengal this season where he bagged six wickets and conceded 79 runs. During the Uttarakhand Premier League, Bora claimed nine wickets in seven games for Dehradun Warriors.
Bora’s efforts went in vain as Mumbai won the match by 51 runs with captain Shardul Thakur, Onkar Tarmale and Musheer Khan picked two wickets each from the team. For Uttarakhand Yuvraj Chaudhary fought hard with 96 runs along with Jagadeesha Suchith who scored 51 runs but we’re unable to make a difference.
