Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Jemimah Rodrigues praised Shafali Verma, who was adjudged the Player of the Match for her all-round performance in their thrilling seven-wicket victory against UP Warriorz (UPW) in the seventh match of the WPL 2026.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Jemimah said: “All our bowlers bowled well, but I think Sheefu was the standout. And very pleased with her. She always contributes to DC either with the bat or with the ball today. I don’t think she was my last option because of the way she bowled in the last game. And I’ve also seen her, she’s very confident with the bowling. She’d be like, anytime you wake her up from a sleep, she’ll be like, I’ll go and bowl for you. And to have that much confidence, I think it gives the captain a lot more trust on their bowler. She was phenomenal.”
UPW could manage to score 154/8 in their 20 overs. Marizanne Kapp and Shafali picked up two wickets each. Shafali was very economical, conceding just 16 runs in her four overs at an economy rate of 4.00.
In reply, DC got off to a brilliant start as Shafali and Lizelle Lee added 94 runs off 69 balls for the first wicket. Shafali scored 36 off 32. Though UPW bowlers put up a fight and DC had to work hard in the end to win the match, it eventually turned out to be Jemimah Rodrigues’ first win as DC skipper.
